La base 217 est riche en histoire car elle fut le berceau de la conquête aéronautique française. Aujourd’hui, elle a la forte ambition de devenir un projet unique, révélateur d’un écosystème créatif et productif.
Le projet proposé consiste à ancrer le bâtiment dans son temps et témoigne d‘une capacité d’innovation et de construction mettant en œuvre des techniques et des matériaux à la pointe de la technologie actuelle et choisis spécifiquement pour s’accorder au contexte. Plus que jamais : rénover, réhabiliter, restructurer, reconvertir, conserver est générateur de projet avant-gardiste et novateur.
Ce projet a été financé par les Fonds Européen de Développement Régional (FEDER)

Réemploi, réutilisation, recyclage sont autant e moyens et de techniques de valorisation es déchets, d’engagements pour combattre les hénomènes d’obsolescence, et d’outils pour roposer une seconde vie aux objets et aux atières de notre environnement. Le premier oyen conserve la fonction, le deuxième la forme, le troisième la matière, et tous convergent à a fois vers une amélioration de la gestion es ressources, et aussi vers une meilleure onsidération du patrimoine matériel. Et si cet engagement semble aujourd’hui nécessaire, il reste insuffisant.

L'ancien hôtel des chansonniers, un héritage du 19e siècle, est métamorphosé en une pension de familles offrant 22 logements. Cette transformation inclut une surélévation qui offre des espaces de vie supplémentaires, tels qu'une laverie, une salle commune et une cuisine partagée. 

L'objectif : favoriser une convivialité chaleureuse avec une vue panoramique époustouflante sur les toits de Paris. Un lieu de partage où les résidents pourront s'épanouir dans une atmosphère résolument ouvert sur le monde.

Ce projet de réhabilitation/surélévation est une mise au défi de tirer profit d’un déjà-là et de le métamorphoser en une architecture exceptionnelle par la surélévation envisagée.
Et si construire passait d’abord par le réemploi des matériaux existants en leur offrant une seconde vie ? Telle a été la pierre angulaire dans la composition du projet. 
C’est ainsi que la façade est entièrement constitué de vitrages recyclés, récupérés à travers le territoire francilien ; les dimensions des ouvertures varient en fonction des vitrages sourcés et permet  de surligner chaque étage, de singulariser chaque lieu habité.
